- You don't have to be a member of the CTC, but it is recommended. As it states in the small print of the entry form: you are responsible for your own insurance on this event, and that's where the membership helps considerably.
- The event is a timed reliability ride, where the marshalled checkpoints have to be reached within a certain time frame. That's why you can't start any earlier. But, if you were a fast rider, you could start later and still be home earlier, than the earlier starters. ;-)
- The routesheet was originally the only option and usually available two weeks before the day of the event. So people could familiarise themselves following the route on an OS-map. These days, since you have the gpx-files (for satnav), you can follow the advice of the gadget on your handlebar. You might want to go to the course creator of bikehike.co.uk, where you can upload the gpx-file and see where the course goes. Incidentally, this is what I used the create the files in the first place.
- There are no reasons for cancelling the event. In the end the decision to take part (take the risk) is yours. Pre-entry gives the option to just come, get your check-card and start at the appropriate time. Refunds are not available. However, if you choose to enter on the line, please come well in advance (!!). There can be as much as 100odd people in the queue, and unless you are early, you might miss your actual starting time.
- There is no limit. I had as much as 180 entries before; and with good weather that can easily be expected. Calculations arising from the pre-entries so far indicate that there will be a lot of folk coming.
- So, if you come at 7:30 to safely sign-up early, you can have some breakfast at the café before setting off. If you pre-enter, you can stay another half hour in bed ;-)

NOTE: Car park in Wickford centre
There is car parking available right next to the Market Café. Additional space can be found in the car park behind the shopping centre; access from the A132 roundabout. This car park is less than 100 yards from the café. All parking is free on Sundays.
