Woodham Mortimer Ride Report on 01/12/2013

Two groups set off from Wickford led by Peter W and followed a short distance behind by Ian M. Unfortunately, as my group approached Alderney Gardens at the bottom of Brock Hill, Ron S lost control of his bike and crashed heavily to the ground (luckily no other vehicles or cyclists were involved). Ron was in considerable pain and, from the angle of his foot, it was obvious that something was broken. But he remained conscious and, like all cyclists, was more concerned about his bike, Garmin and what his wife would say. An ambulance was called, which took some time to arrive, but eventually he was stabilised and transferred to a larger one for transport to hospital. John S collected his bike and took it home for him. We all wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him in the New Year.

The first group went onto Maldon, as planned, and met Lynda C, who had ridden directly from home. But they had to endure a long wait for food in the cafe at Morrisons supermarket. My group decided to take elevenses at BHN Garden Centre just up the road at Rettendon and eventually eight went onto lunch at The Hurdlemakers Arms at Woodham Mortimer.
